Public Place Recycling Systems and Auditing

EC Sustainable has recently assisted a beach side Sydney Council to manage and monitor the installation of public place recycling systems. A pre and post installation period of auditing was conducted. The system was identified to be functioning effectively and are recovering a significant amount of resources that would otherwise be disposed in landfill. The stations were particularly effective at recovering glass, metals and plastics. Approximately 50% of the material is now being recovered with further recommendations and work possible to further increase the recovery rate.

The project also included litter audits of the type, location and brand of litter based on various strategies over a two year period. The project allows litter reduction strategies to be developed to target the key locations, litter types and source generators identified.
